Electricity Bills of the Consumers will be increased up to 15 Per Cent
Consumers May See 15% Rise in Electricity Tariffs. Government has decided to increase the electricity tariffs of the consumers. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the rise in electricity tariff. The domestic electricity consumers will see the rise in tariff up to 15 % while the agriculture sector see the 5% decrease in the electricity bills.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday approved the hike in electricity tariffs and this decision was taken in a committee meeting headed by Finance Minister Asad Umar. The domestic consumers will meet 10 % upsurge in the power rates for consumers using more than 300 units and the revised electricity rates, which may go as high as 15 % will be helpful in make an additional amount of Rs 145 billion every year.

The schools and hospitals are exempted from the increase in power rates
The domestic consumer using 1-300 units will see no increase in the electricity bill.
The domestic consumers using 300-700 units will see 10% rise in their electricity pills as the increase is Rs 1.20 per unit, on the other hand the people using the 700-1500 units will meet the 15% increase in their electricity bills.
The agriculture sector see the 5% decrease in the power rates while the general industrial users and the export- oriented industries will meet 78 paisa and 7.5 per unit increase respectively.
The hike in electricity tariffs is inevitable. An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team which visited Pakistan earlier this month called for a further hike in gas and power tariffs. The increase in power rates also comes a day after the Saudi government stepped forward with a $6 billion bailout package for Pakistan’s poor economy.
Furthermore it’s also a good decision not to increase the power rates for the schools and hospital and the costs for the agricultural sector decreased by 5 percent.
A 20% Hike
On the other hand the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has also declared the 20 paisa per unit hike in the power tariff of electricity supplying companies except the K-Electric. The increase was made by NEPRA on Wednesday on account of fuel cost adjustment for September 2018.
All the electric distribution companies under the tag of Wapda would collect the extra 20 paisa per unit in the electricity bills in November 2018. They would obtain an extra Rs2.4 billion from electricity consumers in November 2018 bills as a result of the tariff adjustment. The power supply companies under wapda are including Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkur and Tribal Areas electricity supplying firms.
