Eid is a word of Arabic origin that refers to a religious festival in Islam. There are two major Eids in Islam: Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, and Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah.

The exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan depends on the sighting of the new moon, and it is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. The Shawwal moon will be born on Thursday, 20 April, at 9:13 a.m. Pakistan time.
