The federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Senator Ishaq Dar has announced the hajj policy for 2023 after presiding over the meeting with the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and Ministry Of Religious Affairs And Interfaith Harmony in which 179,210, Pakistanis to perform Hajj this year. It was revealed by an official of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony here on Monday in the meeting after discussion approved the policy and agreed to provide foreign exchange cover of $90 million.
The policy was announced by the federal cabinet in its meeting chaired by Ishaq Dar.
The official sources of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony informed us that the draft of the Hajj policy 2023 is being finalized after consultations. It is expected that the hajj would be more expensive as the single person need to pay approximately more than Rs.1.1 million to perform the religious duty.
The hajj quota for Pakistan for the government and private Hajj Schemes will be 50% each and shall be reserved for the sponsorship scheme.
This year, the Hajj under the government package will be Rs. 1,175,000 to per person in the northern region, and Rs. 1,165,000 for the southern region.
The banks would start accepting the hajj applications in 2023 for securing a berth in Government Hajj Scheme from the general public in March.
This year the government has also divided the hajj quota, the quota of private and government schemes would be retained at 50:50 percent. This year over 179,210 Pakistanis would perform the hajj.
The ministry has also proposed an open sky policy for airlines in 2023 to transport pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), announced fares for Hajj 2023. The PIA fares for pilgrims from the Southern region and Northern region will be in the range of $870 to $1,180 and $910 to $1,220, respectively. The national airline will continue Hajj flight operations from 21st May to 2nd August, during which more than 38,000 pilgrims are likely to travel.
Furthermore, for hajj 2023, the government has also allocated the hajj quota to the new Hajj Group Organisers (HGOs).
How to Avoid Hajj Scam?
In order to prevent Hajj scams and fraud, there is an SMS service. People can use this service launched by the Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to have complete information about the Hajj group organizing companies (HGOs).
You can authenticate the HGOs by simply sending a single SMS and in return, you get the complete details about the HGOs. If you planning to perform hajj 2020 through the Hajj Group Organisers (HGO) you need to ensure the HGO’s authenticity by writing the first four digits of the HGO’s enrollment numbers from your mobile phone and sending it 8331.
The reply will also include details about the enrollment status of the HGO, the name of its chief executive, its selected quota, and its address.

Important Note:

Receiving hajj dues before the announcement of the hajj policy is illegal and liable to legal action. The announcement of the hajj policy 2023 would be made in the media and also placed on the website https://mora.gov.pk/. Therefore the Ministry has warned people must not submit hajj applications or ink hajj agreements with any HGOs without permission of the ministry if they do so they themselves will bear the consequences.
When will banks accept Hajj applications in 2023?
The hajj applications 2023 for securing a berth in Government Hajj Scheme from the general public will start by the March as per the information.
The banks will need to follow the strict rules devised by the government in receiving Hajj applications under the government hajj scheme. The eligible banks should have at least 250 branches across the country to entertain the hajj applications.
The banks should have different counters at each elected branch, besides arranging special staff for supervising the intending pilgrims in submitting the applications for hajj 2023.

When will be the Hajj 2023 draw?
The draw to choose the pilgrims for hajj this year through the government hajj scheme will be held sometime in March. The hajj applicants over 80 years ago would be selected without any balloting.
