HBL Introduces New Rule For Debit Cards For Security Reasons. Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has introduced a new rule according to which the customers of Debit card holders won’t be able to use their cards internationally by default.
HBL has taken this step in order to secure the customers’ data from hackers and started issuing debit cards that customers will only be able to use in Pakistan.
The new rule by HBL will be applicable for the existing debit cards as well. HBL said that the aim of new mode is to protect customers after cards were hacked and money was withdrawn internationally.
If the HBL debit cards holders want to use them internationally they need first to unlock their cards. The new law for the HBL debit cards will effect from 6th April, 2018.
In this regard Habib Bank Limited (HBL) has sent letters to all it debit card holders on Friday, read as,
HBL is committed towards the security of your debit card. Our aim is to provide a secure environment to you when you are accessing your finance domestically or while travelling abroad.
For your added safety and to protect you against fraudulent transactions, HBL debit card at international locations will be restricted with effect April 6, 2018.
If the customers of Debit Cards want to use their cards abroad they can call HBL phone banking at 021- 111-111-425 any time to activate international usage services.
This new rule is applicable for the international use of the HBL Debit Cards and will not affect the Pakistani customers
It is worth mentioning here that Chinese hackers stole data from HBL customers by installing skimming devices in ATMs last year which results in hacking million of rupees.
As per Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) investigation the Chinese hackers had stolen Rs. 10 million from 559 HBL accounts.
