New Smart Cards to Replace Old Vehicle Registration Books in Lahore. The Excise Department of Punjab has declared that it would soon be launching smart registration cards to replace the old registration books for vehicles in Lahore. Punjab’s Excise Department has announced to launch smart registration cards in Lahore will officially be in March.
Additional DG Excise and Taxation Punjab Masood Ul Haq told to media that the main aim to introduce the smart cards for the vehicle registration is to digitalise the whole process. He added that the the current vehicle registration book wear and tear speedily, and due to its size motorists find it difficult to carry it the entire time.
The new smart registration card would be the size of ID card, which one could easily carry along with him/her while driving the bike or car and it would not wear out quickly as well.
He said that the whole preparation had been done to introduce the smart cards. The price of the new smart card would be nearly PKR 530.
The smart card will feature all the required information regarding the owner and the vehicle. Furthermore, with the smart chip placed in the card authorities can check its previous status as well.
It’s worth mentioning here that if the owner of the vehicle changes the color/engine then then a new card will be issued. Nearly 21 features would be introduced in the smart registration card including engine number, token tax expiry date, type of body, vehicle’s color, class of vehicle, manufacturer’s name, unladen weight, Reg. Laden weight, front axle, tire size, rear axle, other axle, seating capacity, year of manufacturing, assessed annual tax, and horsepower/CC.
