NO More NTS: HEC introduces Education Testing Council
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has officially launched the country’s first government testing form named Education Testing Council (ETC).
Under the Education Testing Council (ETC) system people will have the entrance exams for admission to academic degree programmes in higher education institutions as well as for scholarships and employment in national and international organizations.
The chairman HEC will be the competent authority of the ETC and other members include four vice chancellors from public sector universities, two vice chancellors from private sector universities, two officers of the HEC, two members of the civil or corporate society among other officials.
The ETC will be responsible for conducting tests and examinations in a standardised, fair and transparent manner. The ETC Council will be independent, professional and resourceful and prescribe detailed terms of reference, rules and regulations for its operations within six months from its official launch. Moreover the ETC will conduct the free standardised tests for university admissions and government will bear the cost of test.
It is important to mention here that National Testing Service (NTS) was earlier responsible to conduct recruitment tests for universities, private and public institutions as well as courts of law and security agencies.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) in March 2014 has declared NTS illegal and directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to come forward with a proper channel under the government system. Obeying with the court’s orders, the higher Education Commission decided to form the Education Testing Council (ETC) and officially launched it on 25th January, 2017.
