PCSW Organises “Training of Nikah Registrars (TNR)” Programme. Under the project “Training of Nikah Registrars (TNR)” of Punjab Commission on the Status of Women, 2079 Nikah Registrars and Local Government Officials of Lahore in which 1835 Nikah Registrars, 35 Union Council Chairmen and 209 Union Council Secretaries have completed their training on proper filling of Nikah Nama and Marriage Registration Process in Lahore.
Total 80 sessions were conducted from 6 th December to 20 th December, 2017
in 9 towns of Lahore. PCSW trainers trained them. The training was designed on different
significant areas like Constitutional Fundamental rights linkages with family rights, Muslim
Family Laws with amendments, Nikah Nama, Registration of marriage, Dower, Polygamy,
responsibilities of Nikah Registrar, Child Marriage Restraint Act, Dissolution of marriage, Talaaq,
Khula’a and other grounds of divorce, Arbitration Council and Birth Registration.
While her visit at training centers, Chairperson PCSW Fauzia Viqar stated that marriage deed must be taken as an important document which enables all the stakeholders to be treated equally by discouraging every form of discrimination. She said that adequate filling of Nikah Nama in accordance with all related laws always empowers the women and ensure the gender balance which success of any relation. In violation all concerned can by punished as per law.
Chairperson stressed before the filling of Nikah Nama it must be read and observed
comprehensively which will counter the early child marriages and other social taboos. Project
Manager Shahid Iqbal briefed the audience about the motives of training and its importance.
Keeping in view, to monitor and evaluate the training, PCSW monitoring teams examined all the
centers on regular basis to ensure the transparency and usefulness of the activity.
Besides this, pre-test and post-test were held to weigh the information of the participants. In this regard, an exercise was composed to fill Nikah Nama as per laws. They took great interest in the whole sessions and assured to obey all laws while filling the deed. Booklets containing all relevant laws and rights were also distributed among all Nikah Registrars, Chairmen, and Secretaries of Union Councils.
