Ruet-e-Hilal Committee would keep on operating as it was doing earlier. Few days ago we reported our readers that the PTI government has decided to disband the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee all across the country and from now the moon sighting committee in the country will be done by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). But this is turned out to be a fake news buster as the government ministry official had denied that the government had made no such decision regarding disbanding of the committee. The spokesperson said, "The government had not decided to disband the committee; it` rather instructed it to collaborate closely with Pakistan Meteorological Department.” He added, “Abolishing the committee will need legislation through Parliament.” The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is responsible of the moon sighting across Pakistan from the past many years under the leadership of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman. It was first created in 1974 under a resolution passed by the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto-led government in the National Assembly.
