Hajj 2018: Saudi Arabia Imposes 5% Tax on Services for Pakistanis. Hajj 2018 would likely to get more costly for Pakistanis, as the Saudi Arabian government has imposed 5% tax on Hajj services. Moreover the Saudi government has refuted to assign extra Hajj quota to Pakistan.

According to sources the government of Saudi Arabia has informed to the officials of Pakistani Ministry of Religious Affairs about the imposition of 5% tax and to stop assigning additional quota to Pakistanis.

Hajj Policy 2018 Announced

The 5% tax on Hajj 2018 pilgrims will be for using the services including transportation, residence and other during their stay in the Kingdom.

This year nearly 179210 Pakistani pilgrims would be traveling to Saudi Arab to performed Hajj through the government and private Hajj schemes.

This year the government of Pakistan devised a new Hajj policy according to which the quota under the private Hajj scheme has been decreased to 33%, which leads the private hajj tour operators to move to different courts of the country.

The sources further revealed that the Pakistani government has asked the Saudi government to allocate more Hajj quota via new census, in this way the government could assign quota to Private Hajj tour operators.

Government Banks Will Start Accepting Hajj Applications 2018 From Jan 15

On the other hand the Saudi Arabian government has refuted to assign more quota to Pakistan due to the lack of capacity in Mina.

Pakistani officials have also told Saudi officials of starting bio-metric system in Pakistan and requested to let off bio-metric verification on Saudi airports.

Due to the impose of 5% tax on Pakistani Hajj pilgrims, it is anticipated that the value of Pakistani currency losing its value and the pilgrims would have to bear costly trip to Saudi Arabia.

However, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has already taken the responsibility of bearing the extra expenses. Private Hajj tour operators said that the new Saudi taxes would be affecting them more.

No Concrete Measures for Job Creation in Budget: APBF

Sumera Saeed | category: Jobs

All Pakistan Business Forum president Ibrahim Qureshi has said that Pakistan needs 2.5 million jobs annually but the government has taken concrete measures neither in federal nor in Punjab budgets for job creations for the unemployed youth.

Commenting on the 2017-18 federal and Punjab budgets, he termed it a bubble budget, apparently feeling good but does not contain substance.

He condemned the economic manager’s calculator approach in finalizing the budget, which focused more on revenue collection and less on the fulfillment of its major objective of giving a long-term direction to the economy. This budget shows the failure of the Federal Board of Revenue as the reduction of taxpayers in active taxpayers list clearly indicates the failure of the govt, he added.

Terming the federal budget as a number game with no incentives for industry and more privileges for few sectors, he said that government is non-serious to explore new venues for revenue generation and no efforts had been taken to plug revenue leakages amounting in billions. He criticized the Federal Board of Revenue for failing in broadening of tax base. The government instead of generating revenue from direct taxes showed its intention to collect revenue through withholding tax. Moreover, the government after increasing the tax rate for non-filers had admitted its failure to implement the concept of filer and non-filer introduced in the last budget.

He also opposed the Punjab government for slapping duty on internet services. He said internet had now become a necessity for every sector of the economy, whether its agriculture, healthcare, education or SMEs. He said that small size businesses have also a monthly bill of more than Rs1,500. Making broadband expensive will have a very negative impact on the overall economy, as taxing broadband is like raising petrol prices, which affects every sector of the economy, he added. Ibrahim Qureshi said that like the previous governments, this one too has refrained from bringing big fishes into the tax net or even taking measures to prevent major tax evasions. The government attempted to squeeze the neck of old taxpayers instead of taking efforts to bring new taxpayers into tax net.

He blasted the authorities for not keeping its focus on resolving the energy crisis and allocating sufficient funds for the construction of big reservoirs including Kalabagh Dam in budget. He said that policymakers would have to address the concerns of the public since they suffer the most as a result of the power crisis. Ibrahim Qureshi questioned the claims of the government regarding reduction in unemployment, improvement in per capita income and improved energy situation.

The government is opening up the Pakistan economy to imports. While lower duty on raw materials and inputs is needed, but duty free imports of machinery will result in huge spending of scarce foreign exchange and jobs creations abroad, and no jobs for Pakistanis.

Ibrahim Qureshi regretted that no corrective action has been announced in the budget to increase direct taxation and more emphasis has been laid on indirect taxation.

Most Common Problems Pakistanis Likely To Face on Black Friday 2016

Most Common Problems Pakistanis Likely To Face on Black Friday 2016

During the last 50 years, Black Friday has emerged as one of the world’s biggest shopping event that churns out benefits for both the consumers and the retail sector.

Following the emergence of the internet, Walmart was the first store to introduce Black Friday Deals online. Since then, numerous other ecommerce stores around the globe have started following these trends.

With so much hype about it in the global communities, how could Pakistan be left behind? That’s why last year, Rocket Internet brought it to Pakistan through its platform Daraz.pk. As expected, this year, more than 20 other online shopping stores of Pakistan have jumped the bandwagon to provide Black Friday deals and discounts to all online shoppers.

At one end, it is impressive to see so many stores providing humongous discounts on Black Friday. On the other, there are a few blemishes and complexities created by it. This includes:

  1. Price Verification Problem:

Prices of products vary from store to store so it becomes harder to determine which store is offering the lowest price. A consumer is left with two options: either to spend a couple of hours searching the product on different online shopping stores or to buy it immediately at whatever price the store is charging. In the first case, time is wasted but money is saved. In the second case, time is saved but the money is wasted.

Price comparison websites ease this burden by providing a comprehensive list of prices for a product on a single page so the consumer can save both time and money.

One such website, Priceblaze.pk, offers price comparison for mobile phones from more than 10 online shopping stores. Not only this, the website also shows a comparison on deals & discounts as well as coupon codes for cashback from its partner stores. It is an eminent feature for Black Friday 2016 shopping in Pakistan, which is lacking in other shopping comparison websites.

  1. Ratings of Online Shopping Stores:

Understanding the ratings of online shopping stores is a complicated task. Let’s take the example of top stores such as Yayvo and Daraz. Daraz is said to have some of the finest products; however, there have been quite a few complaints about their delivery process. Yayvo, on the other hand, is totally the opposite of this.

To determine the ratings of online shopping stores, users need to visit their Facebook pages and read what other online shoppers are saying about them. They can also go to a comparison shopping website to find these.

  1. Reviews about the Quality of a Product:

What is the quality of the product shipped to you? Last year, post-black Friday, many users complained that the products they received were either of poor quality or had defects.

The representatives of online shopping stores continuously reassured that they delivered good quality products but the consumers thought otherwise. So it’s always better to ask other shoppers about it.

These users are available on Facebook groups, price comparison websites and even on the shopping store’s social page. Shoppers who have had bad experiences are eager to tell their stories. By checking the ratings, users know if the product will serve the purpose.

These are just some of the problems people face on Black Friday in Pakistan.

This year, Priceblaze.pk has tried to minimize the problems faced by shoppers looking for Black Friday Deals. It has introduced a Black Friday Bazaar where products are listed from all top online shopping stores, including Daraz, Yayvo, 24Hours and others. Instead of visiting each shop, users can directly visit the Black Friday 2016 Deals on this website to compare prices, read reviews and ratings and to shop from stores they feel have moderate prices. It doesn’t just save money but also saves your time!

There are multitudes of problems online shoppers face on a daily basis. Want to get your voice heard? Please comment below or send us a message on our Facebook page.
