Interior Minister Put off the Agreement between NADRA and Mastercard
We reported you earlier that NADRA and Mastercard made collaboration in order to launch the e-payment facilities to the citizens of Pakistan. By this partnership citizens can conduct financial transactions and obtain government payments as well as remittances.
But now the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has suspended the agreement between NADRA and Mastercard.
He has taken a stern notice and immediately put off the recent agreement between National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) with MasterCard for financial transactions.
The interior ministry stated the reason that NADRA and Mastercard did not took written permission from the government regarding the collaboration. The agreement was made without consultation and it went through without considering the sensitive security issues.
Chaudhry Nisar has immediately asked the authorities to suspend the agreement and asked NADRA to reply as to why and under which laws a foreign-based company (Mastercard) was being given entrance to its records.
Interior Minister further said that no organization can be allowed to cross its mandate.
By the agreement, Mastercard was to use its latest payment dispensing technologies to route all online payments by Pakistani citizens for the issuance of CNICs, passports or any other document provisioned by NADRA.
