No More Valentine’s Day Transmission On TV Channels in Pakistan. There will be no Valentine’s Day transmission on the TV channels in Pakistan. In order to stop the promoting of this Valentine’s Day in Pakistan the Islamabad High Court has issued a verdict and banned all the TV channels to air transmission regarding the Valentine’s Day in Pakistan.

In this regard the Islamabad High Court has issued a notification to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority’s (PEMRA) Operation Wing on Wednesday in which the court clearly banned all the licensed channels from promoting Valentine’s Day in Pakistan.

The Islamabad High Court has issued this verdict on a following a petition (NO.541/2017) against the promotion of Valentine’s Day in Pakistan. The petition was filled by an individual named Mr. Abdul Waheed, who stated that the Valentine’s Day should not be celebrated in Pakistan because it is not part of Muslims culture and tradition. The Islamabad High Court has then issued a notification and directed all Pakistani satellite TV channels, FM radio licensees, and distribution service licensees not to air transmission regarding the Valentine’s Day in Pakistan.  The electronic and print media will also not cover any advertisement or promotions related to Valentine’s Day.

 

The notification by Islamabad High Court read as;

     …In the meanwhile, respondents are directed to ensure that nothing about the celebrations of Valentine’s Day and its promotion is spread on the Electronic and Print media. No Event shall be held at official level and at any public place. Chairman, Pemra is directed to ensure that all the TV channels shall stop the promotion of Valentine Day, forthwith.

Furthermore the celebrations of Valentine’s Day in Pakistan have been banned in all public places and official premises.

PEMRA Issued Notice To Terminate Game Shows in Last Ashra of Ramadan

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has notified all the media channels to terminate the game shows in the last Ashra of Ramadan. As per notification from PEMRA the last Ashra of Ramadan is to seek forgiveness and having Allah Almighty’s blessings rather to involve people in such type of activities.
BOL TV has taken the notice of PEMRA seriously and decided not to air the game show “Game Show Aisay Chalay Ga’ hosted by Amir Liaquat. As the televangelist said,

“We are the only network in Pakistan which is announcing that we will not air our game show in the last 10 days of Ramazan. During the last ‘Ashra’ of Ramazan we will only be praying and nothing else!”

On the other hand the TV channels which are airing game shows have not yet respond to the PEMRA notification. The PEMRA notification is shown below:

Cable Operators Restore Cable TV Services: LHC Issued Stay Order against DTH Auction on November 23

After the successful negotiations with Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBA), Cable operators have restored the cable TV services across the country. The Cable Operators Association has called of its strike after successful conciliation; they had suspended cable TV services in the country yesterday against the Direct To Home (DTH) auction on 23rd November.

The Chairman of Cable Operators Association Khalid Arayin said that they are calling off the strike as their negotiations with PBA remain successful and Maryam Aurangzeb, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has guaranteed them of solving their issues.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a stay order against 23rd November DTH auction Planned by PEMRA in the country. Lahore High Court has asked the authorities stop the auction since it had already reticent a verdict in the case.

Earlier the cable operators in the country threaten the authorities outside PEMRA headquarter in Islamabad that they would go for hunger strike if their demands were not met. The cable operators are of the view that livelihood is under menace if Direct-to-home (DTH) services will launch in the country.

Cable operators say that the need time to digitize the cable TV service in the country via set-top-boxes, as presently  100 per cent of cable TV network runs on referent.

Shut Down of Cable TV Services in Pakistan

The cable TV operator in Pakistan has shut down the Cable TV services across the country at 2:00PM with their separate affiliation. The Cable operators have taken this step in order to protest or to pressurize the government to delay the 23rd November DTH licenses auction. The cable services to remain inactive across Pakistan for indefinite period of time, said the cable operators.

3 DTH Licenses: Pakistan To Invite Direct Investment Bidding

Pakistan is to invite the direct investment for the three Direct-To-Home (DTH) bidding in the country, as per Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

Pakistan will invite the direct investment of at least $150mn after the bidding of DTH on 23rd November, 2016.

About 12 companies including three foreign operators as part of local group have been enrolled for the Direct-To-Home (DTH) bidding.  Going forward, foreign channels now are having the rights to come under the local government via a regulatory process.

The arrival of DTH in Pakistan will change the dynamics of the electronic media industry. The transmitting broadcasts will be direct to home by the Set-top boxes (STB) with the approximate cost of Rs.3,500 with a monthly fee of Rs.550.

The base price of the license bidding is Rs.200mn and the license holder have to pay the 65 % amount of the total immediately and the remaining dues need to be paid within three years in from of installments. After having the license the operator have to complete the work within a year otherwise the license would be terminated. PTC is taking part in the bidding process through a wholly owned subsidiary Smart Sky Limited accompanied by Russian operator in the consortium (total holding 49%) under the banner of Parus Media and Broadcast Ltd.

Pemra Demands Complete Ban on Indian Content In Pakistan

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) requests to have a complete ban on Indian content in Pakistan.

Pemra Chairman Absar Alam said that their request on the complete ban on Indian content in the country has been sent to the federal government.

India has completely banned the Pakistani content in their country and Federal government earlier suggested to bar the broadcasting of Indian content in the country.

PEMRA has sent a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in this regard.  The Chairman of PEMRA said that they should do the same as India did with Pakistani artist, by banning the screening of Indian content across the country.

Absar Alam said that they started a crackdown against cable operators who are involved in illegal Indian Direct to-Home (DTH). He also said that he is receiving complains that three Pakistani TV channels are airing more than 6 per cent Indian content in the country.

He said that they are keeping an eye if they violate the instruction strict action would be taken against them.

Hamaza Ali Abbasi no more to Host Isq-e-Ramazan Show
Hamaza Ali Abbasi no more to Host Ramadan Show as Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has stopped him to do show. Hamaza Ali Abbasi, who was doing a Ramadan Transmission on a Private TV channel, has violated the code of conduct of media regulators by promoting a controversial opinion.
PEMRA also notified other TV channels that if Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shabbir Abu Talib and Maulana Kokab Noorani appear on any channel doing any such controversial show, the program will also be banned by the authority.
All these people will have to appear in front of Complaints Council Karachi in order to record their statements on 20th June 2016.
Fans of Hamza Ali Abbasi are supporting him and are not happy with PEMRA’s step.
