HEC Bans 450 Programs from 180 Private & Public Universities. Higher Education Commission (HEC) has banned the 450 programs of 180 private and public universities.

The banned programs by the HEC include Masters, M. Phil, and PhD levels. The official website of Higher Education Commission (HEC) has listed the banned programs and the respective educational institutes. The HEC has also advertised in the newspaper in order to warn the students not to enroll themselves for the banned programs offered by these 180 private and public universities.

The HEC will not recognize degrees of banned programs so people have to take their decision timely to avoid inconvenience in future.

The degrees obtained from Chakwal University and Imperial College of Business Studies Lahore will not be recognized by HEC anymore.

PTCL to install Wi-Fi Hotspots in Universities and Colleges of KPK. Pakistan Telecommunications company Limited (PTCL) and Ministry of Science, Technology and IT of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made a contract to install Wi-Fi hotspots in the Universities and Colleges of KPK.

The Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed in the University of Peshawar (UoP) and 25 other colleges across the province. In order to offer digital connectivity in the educational institutes the government of KPK is playing important role.

This initiative will facilitate students and staff of educational institutes to get PTCL broadband Internet access over Wi-fi to research and access digital content related to their academic fields.

Syed Ishtiaq Hussain, Chief Planning Officer, Department of ST&IT, Government of KP and M. Suleman Awan, General Manager, Digital Services, PTCL have signed the agreement.

Both KPK Government and PTCL are expecting to facilitate KPK with advanced ICT services.

The Second Pakistan HUAWEI ICT Skills-Review of First Road Show Week . Pakistan HUAWEI ICT skills competition workshops were successfully held at the FAST National University Islamabad, Lahore College for Women University, FAST National University Lahore in the first week, more than 300 students enrolled. The roadshow invited the HUAWEI ICT Academy Pakistan representative offices, Universities’ teachers and students attended the competition roadshows.

Pakistan HUAWEI ICT skills competition is an important regional annual World skills competition, to promote the academic enterprise cooperation in Pakistan. This is the second ICT competition in Pakistan. Based on the first editions success and high recognition in Pakistan, this year the competition brings more opportunities and awards from the very beginning.

HUAWEI ICT Pakistan skills competition aims to cultivate talents and build a talent ecological system in Pakistan’s ICT industry. With the help of the program, we aim to improve the education system for ICT personnel by providing training in Pakistan so that students can gain more knowledge and acquire more skills through the competition. And get opportunities to study in the competition, grow up in the competition.

Huawei in each workshop focuses to introduce the competitions’ features, stages and the Academy platform, and guide university students how to register. Student show great enthusiasm at the scene, and actively participate in the competition. Representative enterprise service department has also added value to the workshops by sharing the latest HUAWEI ICT technology in safe city, big data, cloud computing, the use of IOT, and let the students to understand and answer their questions.

At the same time, we hope that under the common concern in all walks of life, this competition can be successfully held. We also wish the students who participated in the Pakistan competition to get good results in the international competition.

The first week of roadshows ended successfully, while the ICT skills competition in Pakistan has just begun. HUAWEI hopes that through the current ICT skills competition, HUAWEI, institutions, educational partners and many enterprises in the HUAWEI industry chain will be organically linked. Higher Education Commission Stops 4 Universities for Accepting Admissions

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has stopped 4 universities in the multiple cities of Pakistan for accepting admissions. Students are advised not to take admission in the below mentioned 4 universities as the degrees of these universities will not be recognized by the HEC.

The four universities are:

  1. Imperial College of Business Studies, Lahore
  2. Global Institute, Lahore
  3. Al-Khair University, Azad Jammu & Kashmir
  4. Preston Institute of Management Sciences and Technology (PIMSAT), Karachi

In this regard Director General of HEC has issued an official notification on social media, declaring the suspension of these above mentioned 4 universities.  HEC has asked the students not to apply for the admissions in these universities and look for alternatives.

HEC has ended the NTC testing scheme for universities for testing and formed a new government body named “Education Testing Council” for conducting Undergraduate Entry Test for students seeking admissions after their 2nd year exams.

The entry test dates was declared at the beginning of July and 12th July was the last date which was later changed to 17th July to house more admissions.

Government of Pakistan had started the different Youth Programs in 2013 after PMLN Government started to reign.  The Prime Minister Laptop Scheme 2017 Phase 4 is all set to kick off and below is the complete eligibility criteria. The PM Laptop Scheme is purely HEC approved and merit based. Only the eligible candidates can have their hands on the Laptops issued under the PM scheme. Students both male and female can apply for the PM Laptop Scheme 2017 phase 4 from all the provinces of Pakistan.

Moreover the students who have got laptop earlier under this scheme are not eligible to participate.

Telenor is also offering internship program 2017 with the duration of six months. The Telenor internship program 2017 will start in May till September. Moreover the candidates who will join the internship program 2017 by Telenor will get the salary, mobile credit and laptops.Undergraduates can also apply for the Telenor internship program 2017.

Candidates should have done at least 6 semesters of their bachelor’s program or 2 semesters from their Master’s program to be considered eligible for this program.

HEC to Discontinue Two Year BA and MA Degree programmes

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) yesterday declared to discontinue the two-year bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Pakistan by the years 2018 and 2020, respectively.

In this regard the presently accessible 2-year BA/BSc and 2-year MA/MSc programmes will be phase out and bachelor degrees will be awarded to students after four years or eight semesters of studies.

The Higher Education Commission has issued notification to all universities across Pakistan. The notification showed that the verdict was made after detailed negotiation. The notification revealed that no university in the country will offer 2 years BA, BSc, MA and MSc degree after the years 2018 and 2020 respectively.

After employment of notification, B.A would be equal to 16 years of education and M.A would be equal to 18 years of education.

Though, if a student chooses to departure after two years, he/she will be awarded with a two-year Associate Degree.

On the other hand the Punjab education commission has refused to obey the order.

HEC Demands Lecturers Should Have 18 Years of Education

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has implemented a new rule in which the appointed Lecturers should have 18 years of education.  In this regard the HEC has directed the universities and degree awarding institutions to make it sure that the new appointment of Lecturers according to the commissions’ rule and the minimum qualification should be of 18 years of education.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a letter to Vice Chancellors and Rectors for the implementation of the commission’s direction till 30th June, 2017. The newly appointed Lecturer should be MPhil / MS or equivalent degree i.e. 18 years, or Masters from a foreign University.

Furthermore, HEC has also prolonged the cut-off date for levitation least requirement of Assistant Professors in universities/degree awarding organizations to the level of PhD, to 1st January, 2018.

HEC and OGDCL to Sponsor 260 Need-cum-Merit Based Scholarships to Students of Different Universities

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in order to provide 260 scholarships to the students of different universities under need-cum-merit based scholarships.

The MoU ceremony was attended by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC, Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director HEC and Zahid Mir, Managing Director OGDCL.

Nearly 13o scholarships will be attributed to Engineering students while the rest of scholarships will be granted to students from different disciplines. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that more than 70 scholarships will be given to vocational training of poverty-stricken students under another MoU later signed between the OGDCL and the Hunar Foundation.

The fund worth Rs. 141 million is to be spent in order to bestow the scholarships to students, he added.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, while addressing to media about HEC initiatives for human resource development, said that key to all problems prevailing in the country lies in promotion of education. He said since the launch of HEC in 2002, more than 200000 scholarships have been awarded.

On the other hand Zahid Mir has underlined the noticeable features of the scholarship programme. He said the OGDCL intended to use one percent of their pre tax profit on their CSR initiatives.

He also said that it is hoped that the current scholarship programme will be of a great worth just like the organization’s scholarship programme last year which made tremendous results.
