UVAS Launches Students Business Start-Ups

UVAS Launches Students Business Start-Ups. The Business Incubation Centre (BIC) and Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore jointly organised UVAS students business start-up launching ceremony here on Friday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the launching ceremony while Registrar Dr Muhammad Afzal, Director ORIC Dr Hafsa Zenab, Dr Shoaib Sarwar and a large number of students were present.

All the three startups are unique in their ideas and execution. Mr Hassan is a business graduate and his idea (E-Darzi) is based on an android application on tailoring & delivering of stitched clothes on customer’s doorstep. Dr Adeel is a veterinarian who is  committed to provide low cost hygienic food to the community and his idea (Kitchenette Café) is extracting a very good business from his newly launched cafeteria at City Campus, while Mr Sajjad who is also a business graduate, has changed his passion into profession by opting for photography & designing. His idea (90 X media) is growing rapidly at UVAS BIC.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pasha said that there are many opportunities for business in
Pakistan even in the Pak-China Economic Corridor (CPEC) and UVAS students get maximum
benefit from them.

He asked the students to bring innovative ideas and UVAS will provide all
possible assistance in implementing students plans/ideas regarding starting their new businesses. He appreciated the efforts of students and their mentors.

Ali Ahmad Khan Inaugurates State-of-the Art Lecture Hall at UVAS. The Managing Director Engro Foods Ltd Mr Ali Ahmad Khan inaugurates state-of-the art Lecture Hall renovated by Engro Foods at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences UVAS Lahore here of Thursday in City Campus Lahore.

UVAS & Engro Foods have already signed an MoU for the promotion of science-based linkages between academia and industry offering mutual good to both entities and help to address challenges and create opportunities for the well-being of society. Engro Foods and UVAS agreed to further strengthen mutual beneficial relationship to provide financial and technical assistance to the talented students in terms of merit scholarship or gold medals for position holders, supporting research in dairy sector,student internships and to utilize technical capabilities in product innovation and improvement. Both the parties will also be collaborating in developing workable business model of Minimum Pasteurization Law for ensuring the safe milk and dairy products availability at households.

It is also worth mentioning that since being taken over majority share of Engro Foods by Friesland Campina, which is largest farmer owned dairy cooperative in world, Engro Foods has started paying much more attention on collaborations benefiting the dairy value chain in longer term.

Talking on the occasion, Mr Khan reiterated Engro Foods Commitment for aiding UVAS to produce professionally well trained human resource in dairy sector.UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Masood Rabbani thanked MD Engro Foods for visiting UVAS and collaborating for uplift the dairy sector in Pakistan. Earlier Ali Khan distributed scholarship cheques among talented topper students of UVAS.

International Conference on Recent Advances in Clinical Research (RACR) Concludes. The Department of Physiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Postgraduate Medical Institute Lahore (PGMI) and University of Cambridge UK organised concluding ceremony of2-day “International Conference on Recent Advances in Clinical Research (RACR)”in UVAS City Campus Lahore.

Renowned Neurologist Prof Dr.Ahsan Numan presided over the concluding session of the conference while Dean Faculty of Bio Sciences Prof DrHabib-ur-Rehman,DrSohailEjaz and academicians, clinical researchers, neurologists and physiologists from public & private practitioners and students related to veterinary & animal sciences, livestock and medical sciences related to public health while experts from different countries, including the United Kingdome (UK), Philippine, South Korea, Malaysia, Russia and all over Pakistan attended.

Speaking on the occasion, ProfAhsan Numanlauded the organisersfor arrangingsuch an informative conference in a befitting manner at UVAS.

After comprehensive discussions with foreign delegates in the field of clinical research, theconferencerecommended that it is need to train faculty members regarding GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and then obtain accreditation certificate of ICH-GCP so that we can meet the pre-requsites of developing a solid platform for international clinical research. It also recommended to makeUVAS a CRO (Contract Research Organization) to bridge top pharmaceutical research in Pakistan and on the same front to generate manpower required to monitor the clinical trials and to train physicians on how to meet the criteria of clinical research of international standards.

Theme of the conference covered all the major areas of translational medicine and drug development, ethical concern in clinical research, meta-analysis and systematic review, handling of experimental animals and conduct of clinical trials etc.

2-day International Conference on (RACR) begins at UVAS. The Department of Physiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Postgraduate Medical Institute Lahore (PGMI) and University of Cambridge UK organised 2-day “International Conference on Recent Advances in Clinical Research (RACR)”in UVAS City Campus Lahore.

Punjab Higher Education Commission Lahore Chairperson Prof Dr Mohammad Nizam-ud-Din presided over the inaugural session of the conference while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha,Dean Faculty of Bio Sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, renowned neurologist Prof Dr Ahsan Numan, Dr Sohail Ejaz and renowned academicians, clinical researchers, neurologists and physiologists from public & private practitioners and students related to veterinary & animal sciences, livestock and medical sciences related to public health while experts from different countries, including the United Kingdome (UK), Philippine, South Korea, Malaysia, Russia and all over Pakistan attended.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nizam-ud-Din said that we have to focus on research especially in the area of clinical discipline which has been a neglected area in medical sciences. He said universities all over the world are known as the hub of research and research is called the backbone of the institutions. He said it is direly needed to develop a data base anddo analysis regarding agriculture and clinical research even in the production of medicines for human and animals especially medicine impact and its side effects on the human bodiesand animals for the prevention of diseases.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Naseer Pasha said that UVAS is focusing on result-oriented applied research, multi-level education and talent development by using its knowledge, resources and skills for growth of human resources and solving problems of allied sectors.He said that UVAS faculty members are executing 93 research projects of over a billion rupees won from the national and international funding agencies/organization. He said that the UVAS is working closely with Punjab government for the development of livestock and related sectors.He acknowledged therole of Punjab Food Authority and its step taken for the minimum pasteurization law to provide healthy milk and food to people. He spoke about UVAS facilities regarding diseases diagnosis, treatment and advisory services for the development of livestock sector in Pakistan.

Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman spoke about the objectives of the conference. He said clinical research is an important branch of medical sciences that determines the safety and effectiveness on NOVEL medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use at a stage when other available product fail. He said that the clinical trials are globally conducted for the prevention, treatment, diagnosis orfor relieving symptoms of a disease at a stagewhere other medications fail, hence giving a new hope of cure for the patients and opening a new horizon for the treatment of a disease and to improve the quality of life. The conference comprises on four technical sessions, six keynote, 11 oral and 50 poster presentations while four satellite workshopsincluding simulation techniques in drug development, meta-analysis and systematic review, role of RT-PCR in molecular diagnostics and blood and tissue sampling from laboratory mouse will feature in the two-day event.

Theme of the conference will cover all the major areas of translational medicine and drug development, ethical concern in clinical research, meta-analysis and systematic review, handling of experimental animals and conduct of clinical trials etc.

UVAS Signed the Agreement for Establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) Network in Pakistan. The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore participated in the signing ceremony for the establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) Network in Pakistan.

The ceremony was jointly organized by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Intellectual Property Organization (IPO), Pakistan. More than 20 universities from all over Pakistan attended the ceremony and signed the agreement. Federal Minister for Education and Professional TrainingMuhammad Baleeghur Rehman,presidesover the signing ceremony as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Baleegh ur Rehman emphasized the importance of quality education and protection of the innovative ideas and product development. He also said that the TISC will provide the innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovation potential and to create, protect and manage their intellectual property (IP) rights.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha(S.)signed the agreement whileDirector ORIC Dr Hafsa Zenab and Focal Person (TISC)Dr Muhammad Adnan Aslam were also present on the occasion.

3-day training workshop on Research Methodology concludes at UVAS

LAHORE (13-12-17): The Center for Educational Policy and Administration (CEPA) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad organised concluding ceremony of a 3-day “Faculty Training Workshop on Research Methodology” here on Wednesday.

UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani presided over the concluding session of the workshop and distributed certificates among the participants whileDean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and Chairperson Department of Anatomy & Histology Dr Hafsa Zaneb and twenty-five participantsof the workshop attended.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani said that it is direlyneeded to learn research methods andtechniques and find out the priority areas for winning of research projects/grants from international agencies. He said we need to get benefit from the experiences of principle investigators who are working successfully on their research projects. Dr Rabbani lauded the organisersfor conducting such an informative workshop for the betterment of students and sector as well.

EarlierProf Dr Habib-ur-Rehman spoke about the objectives of CEPA.At the end of the ceremony Dr Hafsa Zenab presented the vote of thanks.Inthe workshop various aspects have been discussed related to research methodology, including critical thinking in research, research process, how to write a research paper, endnote use in research, plagiarism and research ethics, etc.
