Petrol In Pakistan Damaging Vehicles’ Engines: Report. The report conducted by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revealed that the petrol available in Pakistan is damaging the engines of vehicles.
Last year Honda Pakistan complained to OGRA had revealed that the local petroleum companies in Pakistan have been participating a lot in damaging the engines of vehicles due to the combination of petrol and harmful chemicals.
In order to increase the efficiency or petrol or making the fake higher quality petrol, the oil companies are using harmful chemicals to increase the RON of petrol.
Last year Honda Atlas filed a complaint to Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) blaming that the oil companies in Pakistan were mixing the chemicals with petrol and due to this reason the performance of Honda cars’ engines got damaged.

The company y told OGRA that to meet its standards Research Octane Number (RON), the oil companies in Pakistan were adding manganese.
Now the report of OGRA has suggested that the claims of Honda were valid as the oil importers and refineries are using chemicals to increase the RON of petrol.
OGRA and Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) have carried sample test which showed an excessive presence of chemicals in petrol. The sample test of local oil manufacturing companies has been made to public.
The OGRA report revealed that to increase the quality of otherwise a low quality petroleum product the oil manufacturer companies in Pakistan are using harmful chemicals which is not only damaging the engines of vehicles but also harmful for humans as well.
It is important to mention here that Honda claimed that due to poor fuel quality it had to stop the production of its Honda Civic 1.5L Turbo.
Honda’s claim has also supported by Hascol petroleum. The company told that many refineries and oil companies in Pakistan are using Ferrocene to achieve the desired RON 90 and 92 standards. The mixture of additives like MMT and Ferrocene in petrol is resulting in damage to the engines, emission systems, spark plugs and fuel injectors.
As per OGRA report these chemicals cause the catalytic converter to choke after reacting with it and also harmful for human health and environment.
It is left to see how the local oil refineries and oil companies in Pakistan respond to revelation of report.
