Third and Final Supermoon 2016 with Geminid Meteor Shower to Occur on 14th December
People have witnessed the supermoon in November but it was not the final supermoon of 2016. The third and final supermoon 2016 is to occur on 14th December along with Geminid meteor showers.
The moon will appear 14 per cent bigger on the same day it become full and 30 per cent brighter than the usual. The moon will closer to earth than it has in decades. This will be the final supermoon of the year 2016, the first occurred on 14th October, the second was on 14th November, and the third and final will be at the night of 13-14 December. The next supermoon will occur in 2034.
There will be additional treat for the viewers, the supermoon will occur along with Geminid meteor shower.
The Geminids are an annual meteor shower triggered by the 3200 Phaethon asteroid. Its orbit carries it very close to the sun, producing its surface material to smash and break off. The Earth passes over this space rubble every December, which burns up as hits our atmosphere. These are the meteors visible in our sky.
Nasa said that the Geminid meteor shower will start from 14th to 16th December. On the other hand the brightness of supermoon will make it harder to witness the visibility of meteor showers.
Where to see?
Space gazers can observe in the Northern Hemisphere than the southern Hemisphere and if you are lucky you can witness the meteor showers and shooting stars every hour on the night of 13-14 December.
