HEC to Discontinue Two Year BA and MA Degree programmes
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) yesterday declared to discontinue the two-year bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Pakistan by the years 2018 and 2020, respectively.
In this regard the presently accessible 2-year BA/BSc and 2-year MA/MSc programmes will be phase out and bachelor degrees will be awarded to students after four years or eight semesters of studies.
The Higher Education Commission has issued notification to all universities across Pakistan. The notification showed that the verdict was made after detailed negotiation. The notification revealed that no university in the country will offer 2 years BA, BSc, MA and MSc degree after the years 2018 and 2020 respectively.
After employment of notification, B.A would be equal to 16 years of education and M.A would be equal to 18 years of education.
Though, if a student chooses to departure after two years, he/she will be awarded with a two-year Associate Degree.
On the other hand the Punjab education commission has refused to obey the order.
